Product Development Director – HVAC Industry

 

 

General Responsibilities:

 

Located in London, Ontario, Airia Brands Inc., is seeking a highly motivated experienced, innovative, take-charge leader for the position of Product Development Director.  The individual in this role will lead the development of exciting, cutting edge products and solutions, delivering the latest innovations in the Indoor Air Quality industry. As a key leader in the organization you will be responsible for producing designs and redesigns of new and existing products to complement and enhance product offerings and continually improve quality while minimizing production costs and sustaining a competitive advantage in the air movement and control industry. 

You will manage resources and process to drive growth through day-to-day engineering operations as well as strategic marketing activities for the company's indoor air quality products. You’ll interface with senior level management and ownership on the strategic direction, operational and financial performance of the entire organization. You will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for our product offerings, working closely with the sales channel, manufacturing and key customers on new product concepts and features.

The functional areas this position is to manage are:

 

  • Production Engineering – ISO process management and audit, Manufacturing process changes and implementation plus manage Quality Control (internal and external) metrics and improvements.

     

  • Product Development – Evaluate, design and test and/or pilot changes to existing portfolio of products and introduction of new products. Develop and manage BOM for all products.

 

  • Product Portfolio Management – Develop and manage roadmap process (identification to launch) for all offerings within catalog and pending (development). Provide marketing support for catalog and materials needed for CO-OP initiatives and trade shows.

 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Development of multi-generational product lifecycle roadmaps
  • Lead product development teams
  • Drive innovation end to end by managing all stakeholder engagement
  • Oversee the prototyping and testing of new designs, including the interpretation of test results
  • Oversee the transition from design into production, including any necessary testing and training required for implementing new or changed designs
  • Provide technical production support from manufacturing process, equipment and bill of materials quality
  • Represent Airia’s interest regarding industry standards and industry regulatory agencies
  • Establish and maintain product design standards to conform to product specifications and certifications
  • Directs and participates in engineering impacted cost reduction efforts

  • Oversee the coordination and execution of the Engineering Change Process

  • Take the lead pricing the new products and services that create value for both our customers and the business

  • Directs and participates in the creation and implementation of the technical strategy

  • Work closely with our internal and external customers, and the sales team to understand their needs and deliver products and solutions that will give Airia a long-term competitive advantage in the market
  • Ensure ISO requirements are met (development to audit)
  • Manage test lab and processes
  • Ensure product catalog and associated marketing materials are continuously updated
  • Provide training and technical tools and process for sales channel
  • Support Sales channel customer training initiatives and trade shows
  • Oversee development of customer and sales support training tools
  • Provide technical escalation point for technical support to sales teams (pre/post sales)
  • Assure that personnel remain qualified to provide the expertise essential to effective operations and establish effective working relationships with manufacturing personnel

  • Conduct Performance review, develop goals and development plans for new and existing employees

  • Maintain accurate and complete engineering records to provide timely information to the organization. Implement a favorable work atmosphere by cross training personnel to meet their personnel goals

  • Effectively communicate through active listening; acting on input; sharing information in an open, timely manner and encouraging others to do the same

  • Assure that design engineering, engineering laboratory, Model shop/prototyping, and documentation activities meet corporate strategic objectives

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in engineering or equivalent experience
  • Proven record of excellent understanding of the product development life-cycle processes and methodologies
  • Demonstrated strategic and business acumen and communications
  • Demonstrated ability to achieving and maintaining business profitability
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to all levels of the organization, specifically in a manufacturing/production environment
  • Superior analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to quickly grasp and interpret information pertinent to the growth of the organization
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills required.  Effectively able to communicate and influence the sales/customer and/or engineering communities
  • Ability to identify opportunities/threats and develop and execute appropriate strategic and tactical business solutions
  • Project management skills would be an asset
  • Knowledgeable in HVAC technology would be an asset
  • This position requires occasional travel to customer and partner sites in North America (10-20%)
