Under the general direction of the Assistant Vice President (Financial Services), the Manager, Financial Information Systems is responsible for the strategic planning, project management, and quality control of Finance information system projects and process enhancements, as well as the ongoing management of financial system maintenance requirements, including Purchasing Services modules.
As a member of the Finance management team, the incumbent provides guidance and advice for continuous process improvements, and recommends systems solutions to satisfy business requirements with the goal of achieving efficient business processes, and with the highest regard for customer service and controls. He/she is well informed of emerging trends in finance systems technology and business administration, and provides a strategic framework for enhancing the financial services offered to the University clients, both internal and external.
He/she is responsible for the management of financial systems development and maintenance, including those related to the Banner ERP system, the FAST Portal, and other third party and in-house developed software used within finance operations. The Manager is accountable for the reliability of the financial systems infrastructure, including data and records integrity, as well as system access and security.
Under the general direction of the Assistant Vice-President (University Services), he/she provides systems support, advice and guidance on systems enhancements, and manages maintenance requirements for Purchasing Services. He/she may also be called on to provide such services to other departments within University Services, such as Graphic Services.
The incumbent provides various project management services for small and large scale finance information systems projects, including drafting proposals, project charters, project plans, change management, training and communications. He/she leads large scale projects, liaises with other University departments, and supervises staff and colleagues in implementing system and process changes to ensure timelines and requirements are met.
The incumbent is responsible for developing and maintaining a sustainable training and communications program to ensure Finance clients remain well informed and sufficiently proficient in leveraging the financial system tools available to them.
Education and Experience:
The completion of an honours degree in an Accounting, Finance or Information Systems related field. Designation as an Accountant from a recognized institution (CA, CGA, CMA or equivalent) is also required. This along with seven to ten years of directly related experience, normally acquired through consulting or leadership roles on various information systems projects and at least 5 years in a university and/or Finance environment.
