Vice President, Internal Audit

Canada-British Columbia-Victoria

Job Description

With assets under administration of $135.5 billion, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (bcIMC) is the 5th largest pension fund in Canada. bcIMC’s investment activities help finance the retirement benefits of more than 554,000 plan members, as well as the insurance and benefit funds that cover over 2.3 million workers in British Columbia. bcIMC has grown significantly in recent years and is now regarded as one of Canada’s most influential financial institutions with a diverse and global mix of assets. The goal is to position the organization to manage over $200 billion in assets over the coming years. With the growth of the organization and the shift to manage more assets in-house and to expand into new and existing asset classes such as derivatives, private equity, infrastructure and real estate, bcIMC is at an exciting time in its history.

With the growth and transformation of the organization, bcIMC recognizes the importance of a robust internal audit function. As a result, the organization is now seeking a new internal audit leader with a mandate to develop, shape and lead a risk-based internal audit function in the organization.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and functionally to the Audit Committee of the Board, the Vice President, Internal Audit will build and lead a lean and high performing team. Developing a risk-based approach, appropriate policies and procedures, quality assurance and ensuring overall rigour in internal audit processes is the objective. In this high-profile and critical role in the organization, the VP must able to build effective relationships across the organization and be a trusted, impartial partner to the business and operations.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced internal audit leader who has a track record of building and leading a high-performing, risk-based internal audit function. Experience in the investment and financial services sector would be a significant asset. The new VP will blend a strategic perspective with an ability to provide hands-on leadership to a small team. bcIMC is seeking a highly collaborative and proactive relationship builder who brings strong communication, influencing and interpersonal skills.

Located in Victoria, BC, this is a unique opportunity to take on a strategic internal audit role to shape and a new approach to internal audit within an influential, growing, global investment organization.
