Job Summary

We are looking for a strategic, results-oriented finance professional to join our Toronto office to coordinate and supervise the budget process, consolidate Firm-wide financial results, and analyze financial data and provide timely and accurate financial reports to support management decisions. This role is also responsible to streamline processes to ensure efficiency, compliance with current accounting standards, and tax regulations, and to support the Finance functions of all the regions and offices across the Firm.

The role has minimal direction and is required to exercise strong initiative, and sound judgment and the utmost professionalism expected for a Tier 1 law firm.

  • Strong attention to detail; much of the work will be presented to senior stakeholders such as the Board and Senior Management and must be accurate

 Specific Responsibilities:

  • Management of daily operations, staffing and supervision of the Firm-wide Senior Financial Analysis team, whose responsibilities include:
    •    Budgeting and forecasting functions for Firm-wide costs
    •    Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated financial reports (and notes) and presentations for the Firm-wide management team and Board meetings
    •    Preparing monthly consolidated and other firm-wide financial reports for the Director of Finance, the CFO, and the other Senior Business Executives
    •    Analyzing, interpreting and communicating to management monthly Firm-wide operating results against budget
    •    Coordinating the annual external audit and supporting the firm’s auditors in the audit of the Firm-wide costs and the consolidated financial statements
  • Working with Regional finance teams on management reports, audit, budget and other key harmonized financial functions
  • Ensuring strong controls exist in Firm-wide processes and implementing new controls as needed
  • Providing ongoing support to Canadian and Foreign offices, as required
  • Participating in tax and other project work as required
  • Assuming additional responsibilities as requested.

 Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting and financial analysis at a senior accounting level, preferable within a large law firm or professional services firm, and a minimum of 2 years supervising a team
  • CPA designation or equivalent accounting designation from other countries
  • Auditing experience
  • IFRS exposure and budgeting and forecasting experience
  • Sound knowledge of GAAP / ASPE
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and cost control principles
  • Experienced in preparation of F/S, notes to F/S and consolidation of F/S
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections
  • Experience implementing and monitoring controls
  • MS Office proficiency – advanced level for Excel


This role reports to the Director, Finance.
