The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science offers innovative undergraduate, graduate and doctoral education through its five discipline-based departments, including ten undergraduate engineering and applied sciences programs and collaborative multidisciplinary graduate degrees designed to meet today’s evolving needs. The Faculty’s close to 3,500 undergraduate and graduate students achieve academically and impact the world around them, within a collaborative atmosphere that has resulted in the highest graduation rate of any undergraduate engineering program in Canada. Reporting to the Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic), the Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science will provide strategic direction, academic planning leadership and administrative oversight to achieve the highest possible standards in engineering and applied science education and research. Working in collaboration with the Associate Deans, and Heads of Departments, the Dean will lead and expand the boundaries of innovative and multi-disciplinary approaches to teaching and research, and will successfully manage the financial, administrative and human resources of the Faculty. Committed to the success and development of students, faculty and staff, the Dean will work collaboratively with academic, industry, alumni, and public sector partners to further enhance the stature and resources of the Faculty.
The Dean will have strong achievements in engineering research, teaching, scholarly activities and service, and demonstrated leadership capabilities in a collegial university setting. An open and collegial style, outstanding management, communication and interpersonal skills, and a creative approach to problem solving are required. Experience building diverse, inclusive and collaborative teams, relating to a range of internal and external partners, and an interest in or experience with fundraising will be important assets in this role.
