Presstran's lines of automotive stampings and welding assemblies are used in front motor compartments, underbody structures, truck frame components and front and rear suspensions as well as non-automotive applications

Job Introduction
The Assistant Stamping Department Leader ensures all requirements associated with the successful fabrication of product. This is facilitated through Production Supervisors; Maintenance Area Leaders, Lead Hands and Stamping and Maintenance personnel on more than one shift. The Assistant Leader oversees Stamping Department operations and supports management, Leaders, and production personnel by acting as liaison in matters regarding policy application, employee relations, and continuous improvement for processes and productivity. This position carries direct and/or indirect supervisory responsibility. The Assistant Stamping Department Leader assumes the role of the Stamping Department Leader in his/her absence.

Major Responsibilities
1. Assists Department Leader in establishing and driving overall department vision and direction

2. In cooperation with Senior Management and support departments, establishes, disseminates and manages departmental KPI's in the MAFACT pillars of: Safety, Quality, Timing, Cost and Motivation

3. Participates in personnel requirements planning, overtime scheduling, co-ordinating layoffs, etc.

4. Co-ordinates preventative maintenance with tool room/maintenance depts. and production planner

5. Assists in the development of procedures that improve quality/productivity

6. Co-ordinates the movement of quarantine material/parts/scrap upon disposition by material buyer/quality assurance

7. Assists in development of new/improved methods relating to stamping operations

8. Requests training for stamping personnel as required

9. Prepares/monitors and manages department budget

10. Assists with capacity planning and press loading to meet future objectives

11. Orders supplies and deals with all salesmen and subcontractors relating to department

12. Ensures fairness to direct reports

13. Provide employee coaching, development and training

14. Develops and maintains peer relationships

15. Effectively builds and fosters teamwork within the department

16. Promotes/recommends continuous improvement suggestions including environment, people, processes and equipment/machinery

17. Conducts performance appraisals informally or formally as required

18. Conducts employee meetings as required

19. Follows and adheres to requirements of current customer quality and environmental management systems standards

20. Keeps work area neat and clean

21. Performs other related duties as required

22. Ensuring employees are trained or certified, as required

23. Supporting Area Leaders and Lead Hands in their health and safety activities

24. Evaluating health and safety performance of their Area Leaders

25. Enforcing Presstran Health and Safety Policies and Procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation for Industrial Establishments and other relevant Codes and Standards

26. Conduct performance appraisals for workers' safety performance

27. Performing regular workplace inspections and correcting unsafe acts or conditions

28. Reporting and investigating all accidents/incidents

Knowledge and Education
1. Tool & Die Journeyman or Post-Secondary Education in an Applicable Engineering Field

2. Minimum 5-7 years skilled experience in Tool and Die and/or Engineering Application

3. Minimum 3-5 years supervisory experience in an industrial setting

4. Experience in medium to large scale project management

5. Must possess human relations skills and maturity of judgement

6. Must possess time management, leadership, communication, organizational and presentation skills

Work Experience
EQUIPMENT and/or PRODUCT FAMILIARITY: Equipment: PC, telephone, photocopier, fax machine, etc. Software: Microsoft Office ; CMS, Presstran specific systems and data bases, etc.

Skills and Competencies
RESPONSIBILITY AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Under the general direction of the DL/GM/AGM(s), the Leader confers regularly with other divisional staff specialists on matters directly related to all press shop operations. The incumbent requires excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal. The Leader works in an office environment but is exposed to elements such as noise/temperature during time spent on the plant floor collecting/exchanging information.
