Job Description

Intermediate Bridge Specialist – term ending March 31, 2021


Job Summary

The Intermediate Bridge Engineer will report to the Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) – Senior Director of Bridges & Roads and will be responsible for dealing with bridge related issues that arise during the RFP and design/construction phases of the Gordie Howe International Bridge P3 project.


Overview of Responsibilities

  • Assist Senior Director Bridges & Roads in addressing requests for clarification, and review of Commercially Confidential Meeting (CCM) submissions during the RFP stage of the P3 project
  • Assist Senior Director Bridges & Roads with issuance of RFP addenda
  • Assist Senior Director Bridges & Roads in reviewing General Engineering Consultant (GEC) submissions
  • Review of design submissions from Project Co
  • Attend as necessary GEC / Project Co bridge related meetings 
  • Assist in review of Project Co’s bridge related fabrication and shop drawing submissions
  • Assist in the coordination work with other WDBA disciplines ( Roadway, Utilities, Plazas, ITS) for any bridge related work
  • Assist in the preparation of bridge related progress reports
  • Provide engineering input to WDBA/GEC quality teams for all bridge related matters
  • Provide input to WDBA financial team if necessary for any payment submission by both GEC and Project Co. 
  • Site visits for compliance verification


Competencies and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (structural major), Graduate degree is considered an asset
  • Registered or qualified for registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in Ontario or P.E. in Michigan
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience including at least two years’ experience in bridge design; or an equivalent combination of qualifications
  • Experience with P3 model and complex projects
  • Experience working with Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) considered an asset
  • Demonstrable expertise with design and construction of bridge structures
  • Familiarity with CHBDC, MTO standards and AASHTO
  • Familiarity with bridge engineering design software
  • Understanding of contract language and construction terminology
  • Ability to manage multiple issues concurrently
  • Possesses strong negotiation, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong initiative and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and professionally communicate orally and in writing
  • Well-rounded knowledge of relationship management
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint  and Outlook
  • Valid Class “G” Driver’s License
  • Willingness and ability to travel



Salary $75,821 to $92,670 plus benefits and pension package
