Water Security Agency (WSA) is a unique organization in Canada - bringing together all of government's core water management responsibilities in one place. We manage the province's water supply, regulate drainage, own and operate 69 dams and related canals, write water policy and law, build needed scientific knowledge, assess water quality, assess ecological health, develop and deliver water programs, manage interjurisdictional water agreements, protect water quality, ensure safe drinking water and treatment of wastewater, reduce flood and drought damage, protect aquatic habitat and provide information about water.


The Water Security Agency was formed to lead implementation of the 25 Year Saskatchewan Water Security Plan. The plan will ensure the sustainability and quality of Saskatchewan’s surface and ground water supplies while protecting drinking water supplies from the source to the tap.

Job Description

 

Our hydrometric program measures and records critical information about lake levels and stream flows from 283 stations throughout Saskatchewan. This information helps the Province forecast and respond to floods and drought, and is used in all scales of infrastructure projects, from deciding the size of culverts required in a road, to major bridge and dam construction.  We are searching for an enthusiastic leader to join a team of technical and professional staff performing this important work. 

 

This is a management job requiring sound technical, administrative and supervisory expertise and a demonstrated ability to apply a high degree of judgement and discretion in a variety of situations.  You will require a command of engineering theory as related to the flow and measurement of water and principles and involved.  Problems are difficult and, at times, highly complex requiring the application of specific professional discipline practices and principles. Work involves thinking within a well defined frame of reference and towards specific objectives.  An individual in this role has significant latitude in solving problems and must consider various possible courses of action and consider the consequences before recommending problem solutions.

 

You will work among a diverse and passionate team of technical and professional staff, both internal and external to WSA, in the fields of engineering, water quality, ecology, law, sociology, public policy, local governments that are leading this exciting challenge in our province.

 

The successful candidate should possess a degree in Engineering or related discipline, a licence to practice professional engineering from the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS), and 8 years of progressively more responsible directly related experience in hydrologic and watershed analysis, and in assessment of river, lake and reservoir hydraulics, flood forecasting and infrastructure management.
