Custodial Shift Supervisor
Are you ready to be part of the team that ensures clean, safe and well-maintained buildings and facilities across the Peel District School Board? If so, we invite you to bring your custodial services experience and supervisory abilities to one of these two (2) leadership positions.
Reporting to the Assistant General Manager, Facilities and Environmental Support Services, you will provide supervision and direction to custodial staff within an assigned area (60 to 80 buildings), during the evening shift – from 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. – or as otherwise assigned.
Your supervisory responsibilities will include the daily assessment of staff to ensure that approved standards of cleaning, maintenance and security are maintained, providing ongoing staff training, and responding to daily issues and emergencies that occur during night shift operations related to permits, security, flood, fire, gas leaks, power loss, equipment failure, etc. As a Custodial Shift Supervisor, you will also perform staff evaluations, identifying areas of concern and making recommendations for improvement, and will have the opportunity assist in hiring new employees, including the coordination of information sessions and training for new hires.
These positions may involve some weekend work, and will require being available as the on-call duty supervisor 2 weeks per year for after‑hours/weekend emergencies.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Together with a minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience providing custodial services in progressively responsible positions, you bring a post-secondary diploma or certification in a related field with equivalent experience and training in facilities/custodial operations and supervision; or progress towards completion of a diploma/certification in a related field with equivalent experience and training in facilities/custodial operations and supervision. The role of Custodial Shift Supervisor also calls for your:
- Thorough working knowledge of custodial and maintenance processes, Board policies and procedures, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Employment Standards Act, budgets, collective agreements and ISO standards.
- Excellent technical, presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated coordination, training, decision-making, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office computer skills.
- Valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and/or work environment.
