Water Security Agency (WSA) is a unique organization in Canada - bringing together all of government's core water management responsibilities in one place. We manage the province's water supply, regulate drainage, own and operate 69 dams and related canals, write water policy and law, build needed scientific knowledge, assess water quality, assess ecological health, develop and deliver water programs, manage interjurisdictional water agreements, protect water quality, ensure safe drinking water and treatment of wastewater, reduce flood and drought damage, protect aquatic habitat and provide information about water.

The Water Security Agency was formed to lead implementation of the 25 Year Saskatchewan Water Security Plan. The plan will ensure the sustainability and quality of Saskatchewan’s surface and ground water supplies while protecting drinking water supplies from the source to the tap.

Job Description

WSA owns and operates 69 dams in the province, ranging in size from large, like Gardiner Dam that forms Lake Diefenbaker, to small earth dams and in-stream weirs. These dams provide water supplies and recreation and also mitigate the effects of flooding for the people of Saskatchewan. In this position, you will be responsible for providing senior professional engineering expertise to clients and staff and to manage the Infrastructure Rehabilitation group, comprised of engineers and technologists, responsible for investigating, designing, constructing, and rehabilitation of a wide variety of water management projects.

This is a management position requiring thorough technical, administrative and supervisory expertise and a demonstrated ability to apply a high degree of judgement and discretion.  Organization, planning, asset management and control of unit resources are of significant importance in this role.   A high degree of accountability for the quality and accuracy of work performed, advice provided and implications arising from client interactions both individually and for the work unit managed is expected.

You will work among a diverse and passionate team of professionals, both internal and external to WSA, in the fields of engineering, engineering technology, water quality, ecology, law, sociology, public policy, local governments that are leading this exciting challenge in our province.

The successful candidate shall possess a degree in Degree in Civil Engineering or Water Resources Engineering, a licence to practice professional engineering from the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS), with eligibility to acquire a license for Permission to Consult from APEGS in the civil engineering/water resources engineering field and 12 years progressively more responsible directly related experience.
