Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance, the Engineer - Mechanical Maintenance is responsible for the for the development of the Mechanical Maintenance Program and provides mechanical engineering expertise to the Mechanical team, Engineering groups and other teams as required. Assists in the effective implementation, planning and execution of maintenance programs to ensure reliability of the operating equipment and, in support of project engineering tasks, ensures the effective planning, execution and completion of assigned mechanical project work, to meet operating requirements and ensuring the reliability of the Seaway system.


  • Conduct inspections, technical investigations and root cause analysis into asset/equipment failures, assessments, feasibility studies, and various analysis;
  • Complete and/or oversee the completion of designs, specifications and drawings for all assigned work (i.e. oversee design, draft and/or inspection work, signing off documents) in accordance with Engineering principles, codes, standards and regulations;
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and malfunctions, identifying root causes including failure reports and specifying actions for repairs and prevention including engineering analyses and design changes;
  • Develop, implement, audit and support preventative and routine maintenance programs by utilizing RCM concepts and any other techniques required to establish programs to be carried out by the various levels within the organization;
  • Responsible for the delivery of all technical engineering deliverables/tasks to achieve maintenance and repairs objectives within specified timelines and budgets;
  • Establishing equipment performance standards and program to ensure equipment operational performance is optimized;
  • Primary technical interface between Operations & Engineering, and the Technical representative of Operations;
  • Ensure the final commissioning and proper handover acceptance for start-up of all new works and/or system upgrades ensuring a fully operating state;
  • Develop, review and optimize Maintenance strategies for equipment to ensure performance reliability and minimize down of equipment;
  • Participate in the medium and long term planning of infrastructure maintenance;
  • Provide support to operation's safety programs and initiatives as required;
  • Ensure application of health, safety and environmental standards meet legislated requirements and company policy.

Experience and knowledge

  • Minimum of five (5) years relevant maintenance engineering experience in design, inspection, evaluation and rehabilitation of heavy industrial mechanical structures and equipment;
  • Knowledgeable and demonstrated use of RCM techniques including maintenance task analysis, critical spare parts analysis, maintenance procedures reliability and risk assessments;
  • Knowledge of quality assurance processes and quality control activities.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering


  • Professional Engineer license in the Province of Ontario (PEO) or Member of l'Ordre des ingéneurs du Québec
  • Valid Class G (ON) or Class 5 (QC) driver's license and insurable driving record




HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 per week
