As one of the world’s leading universities, UBC’s vision is to prepare students to become exceptional global citizens, promote the values of a civil and sustainable society, and conduct outstanding research to serve the people of British Columbia, Canada, and the world. Home to over 61,000 students and 15,000 faculty and staff across two campuses, UBC is a global center for research and teaching and consistently ranks among the best 40 universities in the world.
IT @ UBC is delivered through a federated IT structure that balances a ‘local’ delivery model with centralized governance, planning, and application in structure and support services. With over 700 staff across multiple campuses and a number of major enterprise IT projects planned, technology has been identified as a key enabler for UBC to meet its strategic objectives.
The opportunity now exists for a Deputy CIO to join UBC to provide leadership and expertise at this exciting time. Reporting to the CIO, the Deputy CIO will take on a strategic, transformative and forward looking mandate to help lead significant change and take on key initiatives such as IT governance and investment planning, establishment of a PMO, developing an IT workforce strategy, and ensuring IT can continue to advance UBC’s research, teaching and learning initiatives. Serving as the ‘2IC’ to the CIO, he/she will lead a team of approximately 20 but through the CIO’s office, also provide leadership in conjunction with other senior roles to UBC’s 400+ central IT staff and team.
The ideal candidate will bring a track record of strategic IT leadership in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. He/she will be an exceptional change leader with an ability to lead through influence and also exhibit the communication and influencing skills to work across a large organization with engaged stakeholders. This is a very unique opportunity to take on a client-focused, strategic mandate with one of the largest, most impactful IT groups in BC.
