President and Chief Executive Officer

 

The Province of Newfoundland and Labrador is seeking an accomplished senior executive to serve as the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of College of the North Atlantic (CNA). CNA is Newfoundland and Labrador’s public college and one of the largest post-secondary educational and skills training centres in Atlantic Canada. CNA delivers programs through a network of 17 campuses across the province and operates an international College of Technology located in the State of Qatar. CNA’s nationally accredited range of programs are designed to meet the highest needs of industry and the College plays a leadership role in research and development, championing the growth of sustainable economic activity across the region. This large, geographically diverse and strategically important organization seeks an inspiring leader who will be dedicated to continuing the innovation agenda currently underway and the continuing momentum of scholarly research and creative activity.

 

Based at the CNA Provincial Headquarters in Stephenville, NL, the President and CEO will chart and guide the future course of the College and will work with a wide range of stakeholders including government, other post-secondary institutions, industry associations, community organizations and economic development groups to build on CNA’s role as a driver of regional economic development. As the champion of the College’s mission and values, the President and CEO will provide inspiration and direction for the College internally and serve as a visible and inspiring ambassador externally maintaining strong links with a wide range of community groups and organizations to monitor and interpret the economic development plans and the education and training needs of the region. Reporting through the Chair of the Board of Governors, the President and CEO is expected to leverage the human, intellectual and financial resources of the College and to advance the institution’s international and research activities, striving for operational excellence and the best in high quality programming in the public college system.

 

As the ideal candidate, you are a creative and innovative change leader with a collaborative, strategic and transparent leadership style. An accomplished senior executive, you understand the key role of the College in supporting Newfoundland and Labrador’s goals in diversification, job creation, growth and sustainable communities. You also understand the provincial public sector, the economic and social structure of Newfoundland and Labrador, and recognize the need to be learning-focused and student-centered while ensuring the long term viability and continued growth of public post-secondary education. You have a graduate degree with extensive senior leadership experience in post-secondary, public or private sector organizations, including the management of administrative, human and financial resources. Your superior strategic thinking and planning, collaboration, organizational, communication and negotiation skills will allow you to successfully balance multiple demands and competing interests. You have a powerful ability to communicate and the proven ability to lead in a complex multi-stakeholder environment and build and maintain effective relations with internal and external stakeholders. You practice values-based leadership and possess a creative vision for the College, as President and CEO you will be dedicated to continuing the innovation agenda currently underway and the continuing momentum of scholarly, research and creative activity.
