OVC SAS Graduate and Research Services & Operations – Population Medicine
Make full use of your administrative savvy and business administration or management education in this key mandate within Ontario Veterinary College Shared Administration Services (OVC SAS).
Reporting to OVC’s Chief Administrative Officer, you will serve as a member of the OVC Administrative Management Team, which is comprised of seven individuals, each supporting a unique portfolio within the College. Your portfolio as an Administrative Manager will cover a dual mandate – providing administrative oversight and operational support to the Department of Population Medicine as well as managing Graduate Program and Research Services for the College as a whole.
Supporting the Department of Population Medicine, you will:
- work closely with the Department Chair to ensure operational effectiveness, efficiency and financial sustainability;
- oversee a base budget of $3.8M and a significant number of research grants;
- be accountable for the Department’s overall financial sustainability by monitoring its operating accounts and providing financial analysis and reporting; and
- supporting general human resource activities to ensure adherence to collective and employee agreements and related University and Department policies and procedures.
The Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) currently has 300+ graduate students (with potential for growth) registered in its wide range of graduate programs, including MSc, MBS, MPH, DVSc, and PhD. Assuming College-level supervisory accountability for OVC’s SAS Graduate and Research Support Services, you will have financial oversight for a $1.2M base budget for graduate students plus an additional $900,000 in graduate growth for a total of $2.1M. As Administrative Manager, you will partner with other members of the College, to lead change while advocating for a positive workplace at OVC, which is a critical strategic initiative identified by OVC as part of its 2017-2022 Strategic Plan.
To assume the integral role of Administrative Manager, you must have:
An undergraduate degree in Management or Business Administration combined with at least four (4) years of experience in a similar administrative role;
Familiarity with the application and interpretation of collective and employee agreements and employment policies and procedures;
Knowledge of general accounting practices and procedures, and experience conducting financial analysis reporting;
A proven level of accuracy and attention to detail;
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills;
Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills combined with effective communication abilities;
Strong initiative and leadership/supervisory abilities;
Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities;
An understanding of, respect for, and the ability to uphold confidentiality; and
Advanced skills using the suite of Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel.
A science background; and
Familiarity with an academic environment and culture.
