Job Description

The VP Finance & Administration advises the Principal on all financial matters and provides fiscal and administrative services leadership to the University in the achievement of its broad strategic orientations and overall academic mission.

Managing an overall budget of 57 million dollars and overseeing the University’s financial affairs as Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer, the successful candidate will ensure the highest level of integrity and compliance with regulatory requirements, and will recommend and develop strategic planning and management initiatives as well as support the collegial governance structure of the University. The incumbent leads a broad portfolio including financial services, information technology, physical resources, and facilities.

As the ideal candidate, you are a seasoned leader with a proven track record of creating a culture of disciplined and consultative decision making and accountability throughout the entire organization.

You possess extensive business acumen and financial expertise and at least 10 years’ experience in financial and administrative leadership roles with non-profit, public or private sector organizations.

You possess a university degree, preferably at the graduate level in a related discipline. A qualified accountant designation (CPA) will be a significant attribute.

Your leadership style allows you to lead effectively within a collegial, non-bureaucratic setting in which resources are limited. You possess exceptional bilingual communication skills and are known as a relationship builder who is able to build effective relationships throughout the University and externally, particularly with the provincial government and post-secondary partners. You are able to communicate complex financial information in a manner that enables people to fully understand the issues at hand.

You have unquestioned personal integrity combined with good judgment and an appreciation for organizational dynamics as well as a proven ability and the willingness to make the kinds of difficult decisions that may be necessary to sustain excellence at Bishop’s University within the current economic situation.
