Job Description

This is BCIT’s brand promise and it speaks to the very fabric of this world-class polytechnic.   Not only does BCIT equip graduates to anticipate and conquer the complex challenges of our day, BCIT plays a hugely unique role in the larger educational system of British Columbia.   Programs at BCIT are delivered within a distinct educational model that is designed for the types of students it serves. The Institution works hard to successfully meet the needs of students, industry, and business in BC.  Generations of leaders have come from BCIT and they have envisioned, created, evolved, and improved the economic, social, and environmental prosperity of our province.

Like all organizations, BCIT operates in an environment of rapid technological change.  To maintain and bolster its position in delivering highly relevant, real-life, and contextual education, curriculum and instruction models are being designed with a future state in mind.  Capital projects are underway to address the needs of its future teaching and learning community as the tools of educational technology and information technology become increasingly intertwined.

Reporting directly to the President and as part of the Institute’s leadership team, and while also leading a team of over 100 individuals, the CIO takes on a strategic, transformative and forward-looking mandate with respect to technology across multiple campuses and a myriad of programs.  The CIO will be the champion for significant change as well as take on key initiatives such as related investment planning, IT workforce strategy, and ensuring that IT can continue to advance BCIT’s, learning, teaching and applied research initiatives.

With a uniquely strong blend of strategic planning and project management expertise, building on technical knowledge, as well as business and leadership acumen, BCIT’s next CIO brings a track record of strategic IT leadership in large and complex, multi-stakeholder environments. This individual is a truly exceptional leader, collaborator and change agent with superb communication and influencing skills that are critical in working across a large organization with engaged stakeholders.
