Job Description


RDC's Health, Safety & Wellness Centre offers students, faculty & staff a wide variety of confidential medical and nursing services - everything from medical aid and emergency care to crisis prevention and occupational health services. 

The Occupational Health Nurse's responsibilities will include: 
  • Assessing the health of students and employees - walk-in or by-appointment - providing treatment, follow-up and referrals 
  • Providing emergency care as needed and arranging for follow-up care, if necessary 
  • Reviewing Health Care Program, employee and student immunization status and referring for appropriate immunizations 
  • Educating students and employees in safe work practices as applicable to communicable disease prevention 
  • Liaising with AHS regarding immunization requirements for Health Care students and employees 
  • Provides mental health nursing assessments, counselling and referrals for students and employees 
  • Communicating occupational health strategies as appropriate 
  • Leading by demonstrating the required behaviors, attitudes and mindset to support the current culture towards health, safety and wellness 
  • Working with all Schools across campus for health, safety and wellness promotion and awareness 
  • Providing assistance to maintain all medical and emergency care equipment, supplies and apparatus in a condition of readiness 
  • Developing implementing, and maintaining confidential employee health records 
  • Working an occasional flexible schedule to accommodate Health, Safety Wellness Centre requirements outside of regular work hours

Minimum Qualifications:

  • RN and a current CARNA license 
  • 5-7 years experience in Occupational Health or Community Health Nursing 
  • Current CPR and AED 
  • Occupational Health Nursing certificate preferred 
  • Advanced assessment skills 
  • Sound judgment, communication and diplomatic interpersonal skills
  • Client service focus and conflict resolution skills 
  • Discretion and initiative 
  • Knowledge and experience with MS Office

  • Ability to manage stress and time pressures while maintaining a good working attitude 
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail 
  • An interest in wellness and prevention 
  • Ability to organize workload, set priorities and work within deadlines 
  • Maintains confidentiality of information 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong attention to detail 
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, including an ability to determine priorities, be self-directed, and work with minimal supervision


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Preference may be given to individuals with Occupational Health Nursing Certificate


$41.05 per hour plus 8% vacation pay

Hours of Work:

Monday - Wednesday 8:30am - 4:30pm and Fridays 8:30am- 4:30pm.
