Job Description

Be part of a vibrant and active student community in the School of Health Sciences, the foremost leaders in health and wellness programming in Alberta.

The School of Health Sciences Lab Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and oversight of the health sciences labs, specific to the Nursing labs and health sciences interdisciplinary lab. The Coordinator also provides lab oversight for the Pharmacy Technician lab and Occupational and Physical Therapy Assistant lab.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  •  Maintaining accurate lab inventory for the Nursing Labs
  • Ensuring appropriate servicing and maintenance of equipment and lab space 
  • Liaising with key internal and external stakeholders 
  • Procuring supplies and equipment for the labs 
  • Supervising lab technician(s), including recruitment, training and development, day-to-day direction and performance management 
  • Providing advice and orientation to all faculty regarding lab procedures, standards, and equipment usage 
  • Participating and contributing to the learning needs of students in the nursing programs by tutoring students in drop-in labs, providing feedback on student progress, and completing competency screening sessions
  • Conducting simulation sessions for School of Health Sciences programs in partnership with the Simulation Coordinator
  • Managing multiple projects 
  • Collaborating with internal partners to establish policies and procedures ensuring excellence in lab standards
  • Adhering to and implementing procedures in accordance with Health & Safety policies and mandates
  • Coordinating the Nursing Lab Kit process starting with gathering supply lists, communicating with instructors, ordering supplies, completing lab kits and liaising with the bookstore for purchase

Minimum Qualifications

  • RN with Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Nursing
  • Minimum two (2) to three (3) years of relevant experience
  • Recent clinical experience in acute care 
  • Minimum two years in an active care environment 
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technology, supplies and equipment used in health care 
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience 
  • Strong computer proficiency, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook 
  • Experience with inventory management 
  • Experience with procurement
  • Proven commitment to student learning & engagement
  • Experience with simulated teaching environments
  • Eligible for registration with CARNA
  • Healthcare Provider CPR
  • Current WHIMS and First Aid
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
