The Sherwood Park – Strathcona County Primary Care Network (PCN) is one of over 40 PCNs operating in Alberta. PCNs represent Alberta's strategy to reform the delivery of primary care. Primary care is a term used to describe the care that patients receive when they first contact the health system. Primary care services are typically provided by a family physician.

The Sherwood Park – Strathcona County PCN is a joint venture between a group of family physicians, representing participating physicians in Strathcona County, and Alberta Health Services (AHS) - Edmonton Zone who come together to implement a business plan to improve the quality of care and access to services for the people of Strathcona County. Located in Sherwood Park, this PCN draws its potential enrollee population of approximately 90,000 from both suburban and rural communities in Strathcona County

Job Description

Our Mental Health Clinicians provide respectful patient-focused care, by conducting mental health screenings and initial assessments and assisting patients in the creation of a collaboratively formulated treatment plan.  Assisting patients to navigate through and access appropriate community based mental health services/programs.   Additionally, MH Clinicians support patient care with appropriate follow-up, interim care, and occasionally short term therapy in cases where there are significant barriers to accessing services elsewhere.  MH Clinicians also facilitate psycho-educational classes and groups.

Functioning as part of a multidisciplinary team, MH Clinicians work with PCN physicians, other health professionals, and local and regional programs to ensure a high quality of evidence-based health care is delivered to the population we serve.  This position will work primarily with the adult population (age 18 & up).


5 years’ recent experience working with community-based mental health services preferred; 3 years required.  Experience w. adult population in terms of assessment, navigation, counselling is required.  Experience facilitating classes and psychotherapy and/or psycho-educational groups is an asset. 

Our Mental Health Clinicians are clinical generalists and need to be capable of appropriately processing any patient referral received from our PCN physicians.

Being industrious, enthusiastic, and adaptable are essential qualities for MH Clinicians at the Sherwood Park – Strathcona County PCN as they are expected to contribute to the development and implementation of novel, integrated, patient-focused, community-based solutions to meeting the mental health needs of the population.
