As a Complaints Officer for the Protection for Persons in Care Unit, within the Compliance and Monitoring Branch, you will provide clinical expertise by reviewing reports and analyzing medical information on cases of alleged abuse and providing feedback to investigators. You will incorporate theory, clinical knowledge and your understanding of the health system when reviewing reports of abuse. You will complete an inquiry process to obtain and review personal, health and financial information from complainants to determine if there is a need for an investigation. If an investigation is required, you will appoint an external contracted investigator to conduct the investigation. You work successfully within a team and enjoy the independence of managing your own caseload.
Your exceptional interpersonal skills and leadership abilities enable you to successfully share and transfer knowledge of medical/surgical treatments and procedures, mental health and home care procedures with other members of the team. In collaboration with the Manager of Complaints, this position plays an essential role in providing advice to the Director in making a decision on the outcome of an investigation, approving investigator recommendations, providing direction to service providers in preventing future incidents of abuse, and in reviewing service provider's responses to ensure compliance with the Director's decision. Using tact and diplomacy, you will effectively deal with very sensitive issues in an environment that can be highly political.

Qualifications: Degree or diploma in a related field, such as a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, plus 1 year of related experience is required. Must be a regulated member of the appropriate college if required by the Health Professions Act.
Experience working with legislation is an asset. Experience using clinical terminology such as surgical and/or medical procedures is preferred. Experience writing reports and/or working in an investigative role is ideal.
