Job Description

We are seeking a Cost Controller to join our team in North Vancouver, BC.

Role Summary

The incumbent will be part of a functional team that is responsible for the processes and tools used to initiate, plan, control and mitigate cost and budget issues that may impact the financial health of the organization's projects. He/she will accountable for data gathering,  analysis and the continuing maintenance/development of tools used to predict, comprehend and constructively influence and ensure the financial profitability of projects. The Cost Controller will report to the Project Controls Specialist as per his/her assigned project(s).  

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Performs project financial planning through the development and communication of project cost control plans, budgets and financial milestones;

  • Prepares the cost control plans, budgets and financial milestones for control and integrity of work to be performed as defined by the project contract;

  • Ensures that cost control plans, and procedures are in conformance with the organization's project cost controls standards and other requirements;

  • Assembles and compiles cost data and financial inputs into the project controls database;

  • Collects measurement information including cost and financial progress for assigned projects;

  • Monitors, tracks and evaluates cost and earned value performance on assigned projects;

  • Executes productivity tracking and analysis, cost reporting and forecasting and progress and earned value management on assigned projects;

  • Ensures contract adherence to financial terms and conditions;

  • Analyses and communicates variances and trends in financial performance and provides recommendations for action if needed in order to meet financial milestones;

  • Ensures the accurate reporting of earned value (EV) methodologies including but not limited to Schedule Performance Index (SPI) and Cost Performance Index (CPI) on assigned projects; and

  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Completion of post-secondary education in engineering, business, accounting, project/construction management, or related field

  • Minimum 5 years' previous relevant experience in a similar cost controls or project accounting role or equivalent. Experience in the A/E/C industry an asset

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding in cost control management (Earned Value Management) for projects of various sizes

  • Familiar with guiding references from the Association for Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE), Project Management Institute (PMI), and EIA (formerly ANSI) 748 standards

  • Proficient in cost processing and control software like PRISM, Aconex, or equivalent

  • Proficient in ERP or financial management systems. Experience with Deltek Vision an asset

  • Solid planning and organizational skills combined with the ability to work under pressure on multiple and competing deadlines

  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Service-oriented and collaborative attitude with a relationship-building mindset and ability to develop and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders

  • Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to multi-task, focus, problem solve and adapt to changing priorities

  • Cooperative teamwork and leadership style

  • Ability to work with staff located remotely
