Women’s College Hospital, and the Department of Anesthesia, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto are seeking applicants for appointment to the Evelyn Bateman Cara Operations Chair in Ambulatory Anesthesia and Women’s Health at Women’s College Hospital.
The Chair is expected to advance excellence in research to optimize care for people undergoing ambulatory anesthesia. The successful candidate will be an internationally renowned clinician researcher conducting high quality innovative research in anesthesia. The mandate of this chair is to advance the study of ambulatory anesthesia and to encourage high ethical and professional standards by fostering and encouraging research, education and scientific progress in ambulatory anesthesia with emphasis on, but not exclusively in women’s health. Candidates will have a reputation of clinical expertise in anesthesia and a track record of peer-reviewed funding with international impact.
The Chair holder must be a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada or equivalent, be eligible to hold a medical license in Ontario and be appointed a staff anesthesiologist at Women’s College Hospital. The successful applicant must be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Anesthesia, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The Chair’s position is for a 5 year term, with the possibility of renewal for a second 5 year term following a structured review process.
Estimated compensation for this full-time position will be in the range of $200,000 - $500,000 per annum, depending on specific specialty and fee for clinical service billings (to be paid through a practice plan), as well as commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The Department of Anesthesia at Women’s College Hospital is a growing academic department with a strong focus on ambulatory anesthesia, regional anesthesia and assessment of resource allocation within the health care system.
