Job Description

Northern Health Authority is seeking general surgeons to provide locum coverage in the energetic city – Fort St. John! 

The new Fort St. John Hospital and Residential Care opened in 2012. The facility has 55 acute care beds and 123 residential care beds and is equipped to handle 22000 emergency visits per year

  • Endoscopy suite

  • 2 state of the art operating rooms plus procedure room

  • Ambulatory clinics including cancer clinics and hemodialysis

  • Medical and surgical inpatient rooms

  • ICU

  • Prenatal Clinic and Birthing Centre 

The Northeast of British Columbia is a region characterized by rolling hills and golden wheat plains. The beautiful landscape surrounding the Peace River is scattered with lakes and unique scenery. The population is 21,000 in Fort St. John. The community, along with nearby Dawson Creek, serves a regional population of 60,000. Fort St. John boasts outstanding amenities and recreational opportunities. 

Fort St. John is known as “The Energetic City,” which reflects the large resource base of oil, natural gas, forestry and agriculture, and the vitality of its residents who are keen to live and work in a community that gives back so much. Fort St. John sits high above the spectacular Peace River Valley, Northwest of Dawson Creek and Southeast of Fort Nelson, where endless patchwork quilts of cropland melt into the horizon. The population is 19,000, but serves an area population of 69,000. Fort St. John is the hub of the Northeast with a new cultural center and library, theatre and art space. The main industries are agriculture, forestry, natural gas, construction and trucking. There are six elementary schools, two junior high schools, one senior high school. The Northern Lights College provides adult education.  

$20,000 Sign-On Bonus and $15,000 Relocation Assistance is Available!  Salary:  $1200 per day (FFS)

In order to be eligible for licensure in BC, your postgraduate training must meet the requirements of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Post graduate training must be obtained from an accredited and approved training program in a jurisdiction sanctioned by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
