Job Description

The University Hospital of Northern BC is seeking a Respirologist to join one existing full time and one other part time Respirologist in scenic Prince George, BC. The position offers a unique blend of community practice and academic opportunities, and interested candidates have flexible opportunities to develop their practice while still having plenty of time to take advantage of the great outdoors.  This position may be filled as permanent or locum.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Outpatient General Respirology consultation

  • Inpatient Respirology consultations

  • Bronchoscopy

  • Supervision of a level 4 accredited pulmonary function lab

  • General Internal Medicine coverage - on call which is shared with approximately 16 other specialist/internists 

There is ample opportunity for teaching/supervision of medical students and residents through the University of British Columbia affiliated medical school (UHNBC campus). 

The University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) is the Regional Hospital for Northern BC serving both the immediate population of Prince George (approximately 80,000) and is a referral center for outlying communities (total population approximately 300,000). It is the main teaching center for Medical Students in the Northern Medical Program of UBC and provides teaching for UBC Residents in several specialties. The BC Cancer Centre for the North opened on the hospital site in the fall of 2012. The new Cancer Centre includes Radiation and Medical Oncology. The ongoing development of UHNBC as a Regional Center and teaching center makes this an exciting time to join the Medical community in Prince George. 

Prince George is the centre of business, education, health and culture for northern British Columbia and services a regional population of about 300,000. The region’s economic growth and diversification strategies are creating outstanding opportunities for investors, employers and employees. In order to be eligible for licensure in BC, your postgraduate training must meet the requirements of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Post graduate training must be obtained from an accredited and approved training program in a jurisdiction sanctioned by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
