Serves approximately 1 million area residents in a geographical area of over 2,000 square kilometres
William Osler Health System (Osler) is one of Ontario’s largest community hospital organizations, delivering innovative health care with compassion through more than 650,000 patient interactions every year. With three hospital sites: Brampton Civic Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital and the new Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness (opening early 2017) we offer a wide range of health services, with care provided by skilled health professionals working in multidisciplinary teams.
The Infectious Diseases Program at Osler provides consultative ID inpatient and ambulatory services across both campuses and serves the largest growing area in Canada with over a million residents in Peel Region. The program is supported by the Microbiology Laboratory, an Infection Prevention & Control Team, a Clinical Epidemiologist, and an ID/ASP Pharmacist. Osler’s ID Program continues to expand with the redevelopment of EGH, the opening of the new Peel Memorial Campus and is looking to recruit a fourth ID Physician. Osler’s two hospitals are the closest health care facilities to Canada’s largest airport and the ID service sees quite possibly the most interesting and diverse array of Infectious Diseases in the country with over 125 cases of active Tuberculosis per year as well as over a hundred cases of malaria, typhoid fever, and other tropical diseases.
Candidates must be licensed to practice Medicine in Ontario (CPSO) and be a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with an FRCPC Certificate of Competency in Infectious Diseases. Clinical ID service will take place primarily at the Etobicoke General Hospital Campus through a combination of inpatient consultations and a weekly Ambulatory clinic.
The successful physician will transition into active responsibility for the expansion of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program within a year of hire. Through a combination of clinical and administrative initiatives they will work collaboratively with the current ID consultants, pharmacists and medical managers. For candidates more academically inclined, Osler also provides ample clinical research opportunities.
The candidate should demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and possess the essential qualities of a specialist consultant including approachability, availability and collegiality. Opportunities to enrich Osler’s ID program with the creation of, or participation in, specialized clinics in Travel/Tropical Medicine, HIV, Tuberculosis and an Outpatient Antibiotic Clinic may become available in the near future. Training in Antimicrobial Stewardship is preferred; additional training in HIV, Tropical Medicine or other specialized areas within Infectious Diseases would be considered beneficial.
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Review of applications will begin January 3rd, 2017 with a start date to be negotiated upon hire and no later than March 1st, 2017.
