The Department of Medicine, University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services, Calgary, invites applications from outstanding investigators for a full-time position with tenure as an academic clinician-researcher at the Professor level. The successful candidate will be part of the O’Brien Institute for Public Health and will be nominated for a CIHR Tier 1 Canada Research Chair.
Qualifications include an MD with FRCPC certification in a relevant internal medicine specialty and eligibility for specialist licensure in Alberta. The successful candidate will be a nationally or internationally recognized scientist with expertise in health informatics and/or bioinformatics and an active research program. The interests of the successful candidate will align strongly with the strategic research priorities of the O’Brien Institute for Public Health and the School’s strategic plan, including the Precision Medicine/Precision Public Health initiative. The candidate’s interests should also align with the University of Calgary’s university-wide strategic research plan and Platform Strategy for Clinical, Health Services and Population Health Research.
The Platform Strategy identifies health informatics as one of three key enablers that are needed to enhance the success of University of Calgary scientists in Clinical, Health Services and Population Health Research. Similarly, bioinformatics capacity and expertise are essential for success of the Precision Medicine/Precision Public Health initiative. Therefore, the successful candidate will lead the Cumming School of Medicine’s health informatics and bioinformatics initiative, which supports Cumming School of Medicine scientists from all disciplines to use informatics-based tools in their research.
