The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) – Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre invites applications for the position of Chief of the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. We seek an experienced academic leader who will be responsible for directing and developing the clinical, teaching and research activities of the Department.
The Chief of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine is responsible for the quality and safety of clinical care provided by the Department, and works in close collaboration with the Chief of Surgery as Co-Medical Director of Perioperative Services. At present, there are 19 anesthetists and 7 anesthesia assistants within the Department. As one of 8 CHEO-OCTC Medical Department Chiefs, the Chief of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine is a key medical leader within the organization. Depending on the candidate’s skills, experience and interest, the Chief may be invited to sit as a member of the hospital’s executive team.
The Department is an integral part of the University of Ottawa’s Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certified residency program in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and also runs a Paediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship program.
The successful candidate will hold an MD degree with FRCPC certification in Anesthesia and further training and experience in Paediatric Anesthesia. S/he will have strong leadership skills and a proven record of excellence in clinical care and academic leadership. The candidate should be eligible for or hold a full time academic appointment, preferably at the rank of Associate of Full Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa. Functionality in French is an asset.
