About St. Boniface Hospital

St. Boniface Hospital has been providing leadership in health care on behalf of Manitobans since it was first established by the Grey Nuns in 1871. Located at the fork of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers, it was the first hospital in Western Canada, established in St. Boniface as a small four-bed facility to meet the health care needs of the people of the new province of Manitoba (founded in 1870).

From these humble beginnings, St. Boniface Hospital has grown to become one of Canada's leading patient care and research facilities, establishing a reputation for leadership in process. This growth is a direct result of ongoing efforts to improve the level of service provided to the people and communities they serve.   

About the Position

Reporting to the President/CEO, The Executive Director, Clinical Programs & Chief Medical Officer provides strategic leadership as a member of the Executive Team. This individual is responsible for leading physician engagement strategy and is charged with creating conditions for effective physician involvement in clinical transformation.  

The Executive Director, Clinical Programs & Chief Medical Officer is also a member of the Clinical Programs Leadership Team (CPLT), and provides shared strategic and operational oversight of clinical service delivery and fosters a culture of continuous improvement, performance excellence, and inter-professional collaboration. This role maintains a particular focus on quality, coordination, and delivery on defined outcomes.  

  • Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures delivery of high quality clinical services at the St. Boniface Hospital

  • As a member of the Clinical Programs Leadership Team (CPLT), provides shared operational oversight of the clinical programs and models and fosters inter-professional collaboration

  • Represents the Hospital regarding clinical patient care services, works closely with the WRHA, regional programs, community partners and other facilities, to ensure an integrated, efficient and effective health care delivery system within Winnipeg and Manitoba

  • Focuses on quality, coordination, collaboration, and delivery on defined outcomes

  • Plans and prioritizes clinical services

  • Fosters a supportive and effective learning environment, and partnership with the University Of Manitoba and other academic institutions

  • Provides leadership as a member of the Executive Team in formulating organizational strategies and establishing goals and objectives

  • Leads innovation in health zone delivery and fosters an environment and culture of continuous improvement

  • Leads the physician engagement strategy by creating conditions for effective physician involvement in clinical transformation

  • Participates actively in medical staff leadership development

  • Helps to ensure a respectful workplace and ensures compliance with medical staff bylaws

     

  • Qualifications:

  • Formal training in health care administration an asset

  • Medical degree and Licensed with The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba to practice medicine in the Province of Manitoba

  • A minimum of five (5) years administrative and/or leadership experience involving medical staff

  • Eligibility for Medical Staff Appointment in the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority

  • Ability to innovate in health zone delivery and foster a culture of operational excellence, innovation and continuous improvement.  As a proactive leader, you also will play an active role in leadership development for medical staff.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships

  • Evidence of leadership ability, creativity, integrity, initiative, and fiscal management

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills

  • Strong collaborative, communication, interpersonal, and team skills

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand French is an asset
