CLINICAL ACADEMIC POSITION - TRANSFUSION MEDICINE SPECIALIST

 

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University, London Health Sciences Centre, and St. Joseph’s Health Care London, is seeking a full-time clinical academic Transfusion Medicine Specialist at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.  The successful candidate will hold a full-time Limited Term Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, or a Continuing Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, depending upon experience and qualifications at the time of appointment. 

The Program of Laboratory Medicine is affiliated with London Health Sciences Centre and is comprised of Blood Transfusion Laboratories, Investigational Hematology, Core Laboratories and Biochemistry.  The Blood Transfusion Laboratory is one the largest in Canada issuing approximately 24,000 red blood cell units annually as well supporting a full range of services including Stem Cell Transplant Program, Perioperative Blood Management Program and regional pediatric tertiary care centre. The Blood Transfusion Laboratory has a strong track record in education and research in transfusion, flow cytometry and clinical utilization quality improvement initiatives.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide the full range of clinical services required of a transfusion medicine specialist and hematologist. The ability to provide routine hematopathology service will be considered an asset. The appointee will hold a cross appointment in the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and will be expected to support clinical consultation service as well as other clinical activities including the perioperative blood management program. The ideal candidate should have a strong academic background and will participate actively in the Division’s academic initiatives including teaching and supervision of undergraduate students, residents, and fellows as well as transfusion related research and quality initiatives. Applicants considered at the rank of Associate or Full Professor must have demonstrated the ability to publish in the highest quality academic and subspecialty journals and be a recognized expert in his or her field of transfusion research.

Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent and be eligible for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and must have postgraduate training/qualifications in Hematological Pathology or Hematology with additional training in transfusion medicine. Preference will be given to applicants who hold certification from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada or the American Board of Medical Specialties.

Compensation for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be primarily composed of alternative funding and payment plan and fee for service.
