Northern Health Authority/Bulkley Valley District Hospital

 

The Northern Health Authority is seeking family practitioners to provide locum coverage in beautiful Smithers, BC. The locum physician would be working in a local clinic with three other Physicians. The locum would involve office, ER and inpatients. No maternity required.  

Bulkley Valley Dist. Hospital is a 24 bed acute care facility providing emergency/outpatient, medical, surgical, maternity and palliative care services, and has one psychiatric observation unit. The facility supports home and community care services, a strong community cancer clinic, and a diverse visiting specialist/surgeon program. It also offers laboratory and radiology (x-ray, mammography, ultrasound), and pediatrics services.  

Smithers is located in the picturesque Bulkley Valley surrounded by three mountain ranges which provide a backdrop for the town's Alpine setting. The main industries include forestry, tourism, transportation and agriculture. Smithers offers affordable housing and natural splendor that support a balanced lifestyle. There are golf courses, swimming, curling and skating rinks, fitness facilities, mountain biking and hiking trails. The population of Smithers is approximately 5,400 and home to some of the country's best skiing.

In order to be eligible for British Columbia licensure your postgraduate training must meet the requirements of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Post graduate training must be obtained from an accredited and approved training program in a jurisdiction sanctioned by the College of Family Physicians of Canada. At this time, those countries are: Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, and Australia.
