Build your career…at the hospital that’s built for the future
Humber River Hospital is one of Canada’s largest acute care hospitals, serving a vibrant and culturally diverse community of more than 850,000 people in the northwest Greater Toronto Area. The Humber team’s powerful commitment to compassionate, professional, respectful care is reflected in the number of hospital programs and services that have been, and remain, recognized provincially, nationally and internationally. Humber River Hospital is dedicated to achieving excellence in patient care by being a high reliability hospital.
The drive for excellence is demonstrated across the entire organization. HRH’s latest Accreditation Canada survey saw the hospital receive the highest possible Award for quality and safety of care – Exemplary Standing. Humber is the first community hospital in Canada to acquire and use a surgical robot. Its’ Bariatric Surgery Program is an American College of Surgeons MBSAQIP Accredited – Comprehensive Center, and was the first such program outside the United States to receive this designation. Humber River is the first community hospital in Canada to provide paediatric anesthesia for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. The Ontario College of Pharmacists has formally acknowledged that our Pharmacy team’s expertise led to improvements in the College’s own assessment criteria and evaluation processes for pharmacies in Ontario.
On October 18, 2015, Humber River Hospital opened its new acute care facility – North America’s first fully digital hospital. A 1.8 million square foot facility based on the design principles of lean, green and digital to support the best in patient and family centred care, it integrates the finest available medical and communications technology across all hospital systems, services and workflows. And HRH’s groundbreaking technology evergreen strategy – the first of its kind in Canada – ensures that for the next fifteen years, its’ technology is upgraded or replaced to keep pace with the rapid evolution of healthcare hardware and software.
Among a number of awards and honours received by the hospital for its redevelopment and digital vision is the 2016 Special Recognition Award for ‘demonstrated leadership in the digital health community’ from the New York-based Intelligent Health Association (www.ihassociation.org). The Award was presented to Humber River Hospital at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2016 conference in Las Vegas.
Humber River Hospital has 656 acute inpatient beds, including 48 critical care beds, 3,400 staff, approximately 600 physicians with privileges, and over 500 volunteers. The hospital has formal affiliations with the University of Toronto and Queen’s University Medical Schools, and is the Toronto hospital of choice for Queen’s University Medical School.
