 Northern Health is conducting a search for a permanent full-time plastic and reconstructive surgeon, located in Prince George, BC. The starting date for this position is summer 2017. 

The successful candidate will have a strong interest and track record in regional cancer care. The candidate will have fellowship training in oncoplastic breast surgery and reconstructive microsurgery, with an emphasis in oncological reconstruction. The BC Cancer Agency Centre for the North, situated in Prince George, is a critical component of the Northern Cancer Control Strategy. 

The successful candidate will have a strong clinical and basic science research track record that has resulted in a Ph.D. degree and will be expected to participate in both clinical and basic science research. He/she will be expected to show evidence of interpersonal and collaborative skills and initiative to further advance the clinical and academic productivity of the Department of Surgery. The University of Northern BC and Northern Health have entered into a partnership to support research activities. The University of Northern BC has recently launched the Health Research Institute which supports all areas of health research. There is also a robust research program within the UBC Northern Medical Program that supports both foundational and clinical research. 

A commitment to surgical education at all levels is essential. This position involves a significant amount of teaching: medical students from UBC's Northern Medical Program, residents from the Prince George UBC Family Practice Residency Program, and family physicians and specialists in the North through continuing medical education programs.  

Participation in medical leadership and quality improvement initiatives are essential to support Northern Health and the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC), the largest hospital in the region and a Level II trauma centre.  

This full-time position is a fifty percent clinical, fifty percent academic/administrative opportunity. OR & clinical time will be shared with another plastic surgeon, with a one in four plastic surgery call responsibility. There are currently two plastic surgeons in the region, based out of UHNBC.  

To be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC), postgraduate training must be obtained from an accredited and approved training program in a jurisdiction sanctioned by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
