Patient services include a full-service Emergency department at each site, advanced maternal and neonatal care in state-of-the-art birthing centres, and specialized paediatric care. In addition, SRH is home to a number of regional programs serving the central east Greater Toronto Area and beyond, including cardiac care, nephrology, vascular surgery, and vision care, and is recognized as a centre of excellence in orthopaedic surgery, cancer care, and mental health.


Job Description

We are looking for an exceptional candidate to join the SRH medical leadership and lead the regional cardiac care program and department of Cardiology in the role of Chief and Medical Director.

In the role of Department Chief, Cardiology, you will be responsible for the organization and management of the medical staff within the department, and provision of quality patient care in the Cardiac program. You will co-lead the ongoing growth and development of the Department as they relate to the delivery of cardiac services in SRH. A respected clinician, the Chief will have a demonstrated history of personal integrity, an ability to inspire others, embrace change and anticipate challenges. A strong communicator and problem solver as well as a commitment to create a culture of quality and safety is integral to this leadership position. The Chief will foster a collaborative environment and will interact positively in partnerships and relationships with colleagues, other medical leaders, senior team and all internal and external stakeholders.

In the role of Medical Director, Cardiac Program, you will be a physician administrator and co-leader who works collaboratively with the Chief and Administrative Program Director of the Cardiac Program to achieve a strong working relationship between physicians and administration based on the Cardiac Program’s vision and goals as a regional cardiac centre and hub for patient focused cardiac services in the Scarborough community and region. A solid business acumen is an asset. Reporting through the VP of Patient Services to the CEO, you will work with medical staff colleagues and administrative leadership in areas supported by the Department of Cardiology physicians, to optimize access to safe, efficient, high-quality medical and clinical services as well as be accountable to ensure alignment of planning and practice with the Hospital, Program, and CE LHIN-wide regional priorities and strategies.

The successful candidate will be an excellent clinician in cardiology practicing according to contemporary clinical standards and within the scope of practice within his/her clinical specialty.

Ideally, the roles will be combined with one successful candidate in this role however candidates may also be considered separately for each role on a part-time basis. Both positions requires fixed (dedicated) and variable (flexible) time to meet specific deliverables based on the requirements for specific needs and are five-year term renewable based on the By-laws of the Hospital.

The successful candidate must hold an independent practice license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, possess a RCPSC certification in Internal Medicine with a fellowship certification in Cardiology. Emphasis will be placed on candidates possessing previous leadership experience with progressive leadership skills working in multidisciplinary teams.
