Job Description

Integrated Schizophrenia and Recovery Program

The Royal Ottawa Health Care Group (ROHCG), a fully affiliated teaching site for the University of Ottawa, is seeking a full-time psychiatrist for the immediate opening in the Integrated Schizophrenia and Recovery Program.   This academic center provides clinical service, teaching and research opportunities.

The Integrated Schizophrenia and Recovery Program at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Center is seeking to recruit a psychiatrist with exemplary credentials, demonstrated proficiency in working collegially and respectfully within medical and multidisciplinary teams, and a specific interest in the treatment of persons with severe and persisting psychotic illnesses.  A minimum of 5 years’ plus experience is preferred. The position involves a combination of inpatient and ambulatory care, the opportunity for active teaching and research, and the anticipation of participation in the administrative functioning of the hospital, either through committee work or leadership opportunities.

The Integrated Schizophrenia and Recovery Program is committed to the continuous development and maintenance of a high quality, safety orientated, and patient and family centered tertiary clinical program, with strong academic commitments, as well as to the development of a more elaborate research portfolio.  The program participates in teaching of medical students and psychiatric residents associated with University of Ottawa, as well as students from other disciplines and universities.  Research opportunities exist within the context of the University Medical Research Fund.  The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Center has recently installed a state-of-the-art fMRI-PET Scanner, which is the only such device in the country designated to mental health research.

Fellowship and Maintenance of Certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Canada is mandatory, as independent licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Ontario.  The successful candidate is eligible to pursue an academic appointment at the University of Ottawa, and to contribute equitably to on-call services, either in the region or the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Center.  The ability to practice in French is preferred.

The Associates in Psychiatry at the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group are remunerated through an Alternate Funding Plan, with the primary source of funding coming through OHIP-generated fee-for-service billings.  Associates work in a cost sharing environment and contribute financially on an annual basis to research and philanthropic endeavors.
