Halton Healthcare is seeking a physician to fulfill the exciting new opportunity of Physician Lead Quality & Patient Safety. The Physician Lead Quality & Patient Safety will provide leadership to support the ongoing development and implementation of a corporate quality, safety and enterprise wide risk management program. Reporting jointly to the Senior Vice President Clinical Programs & Chief Nursing Executive and the Chief of Staffthe Physician Lead Quality & Patient Safety will provide leadership to the Halton Healthcare physician community and work collaboratively with the interprofessional team on all matters related to quality of care, patient safety and the implementation of best practices. The Physician Lead Quality & Patient Safety is a tireless advocate for the implementation of the quality improvement methodologies to guide local and corporate improvement initiatives and works collaboratively with Quality and Patient Relations and Professional Practice to respond to a dynamic internal and external quality environment. The Physician Lead Quality & Patient Safety will be expected to participate in hospital based clinical care and to be a member of the Associate/Active staff of the hospital or be eligible for Associate/Active staff privileges at Halton Healthcare (subject to Physician Human Resource Plan, Credentialing, and the Board’s provision of an appointment and privileges at Halton Healthcare).This position will require a time commitment of 2 days per week, for which a stipend will be provided.
In collaboration with the Director of Quality & Patient Relations, the Physician Lead Quality & Patient Safety is a full member of the Quality & Patient Relations leadership team and in that role is jointly responsible for quality and patient safety planning, quality improvement, patient experience strategy and critical incident management. This includes participating in the development of short and long term strategies/objectives to enhance patient safety and quality outcomes, implementation of the hospital Quality Improvement Plan (QIP), and ensuring organization compliance with the Excellent Care for All Act and other legislative requirements. The Physician Lead Quality & Patient Safety will be expected to collaboratively make recommendations for the monitoring of key medical quality and patient safety indicators in collaboration with Physician Leaders and Program Directors as well as facilitate ongoing communication and education to professional staff to promote a culture of patient safety and quality improvement.
The ideal candidate will have the following attributes and qualifications or be willing to develop them as part of the role: strong clinical performance; clinical practice with significant patient care responsibilities at Halton Healthcare (subject to Physician Human Resource Plan, Credentialing, and the Board’s provision of an appointment and privileges at Halton Healthcare); well-developed interpersonal and presentation skills; influential leadership style, adaptive and demonstrated personal resilience; experience with quality improvement teamwork and project management tools; and knowledgeable about clinical quality improvement theory, methods and tools.
