Northern Health is seeking a family practitioner to provide full scope primary care. There are three clinics in Fort St. John; one classic fee-for-service and two that are functioning in a new financial model. All three clinics work with an inter-professional team including physicians, nurse practitioners, primary care nurses, patient care-aides, mental health and addictions clinicians, and social workers. Physicians provide primary care with walk-in, same day and booked appointments supported by the team of healthcare professionals.

In Fort St. John, all new physicians are expected to provide coverage in the Emergency department. In addition, there is a position available for a family physician wishing to limit their practice to emergency care.

Fort St John Hospital & Peace Villa is a new 55 bed facility with 123 bed residential care facility. Offering a full range of services including diagnostics, surgery, acute care, ICU, maternity, palliative care, a community cancer centre and community hemodialysis. The city of Fort St. John is located on a plateau in the Peace Region of northeastern British Columbia. From prairie farmland and boreal forest to alpine tundra and rugged Rocky Mountains, the Peace Region produces 90% of the province’s grain, 40% of its hydroelectric power and has some of the largest gas fields in North America.

Fort St. John is the cultural and commercial center of the region, offering a rural lifestyle with modern conveniences such as shopping and entertainment. Recreational opportunities in the area include cross-country skiing, fishing, hockey, boating, hiking, camping, hunting and curling.

Fee for service, approximately $350,000 per year
Retention Premium: 23.30%,
Retention Flat Fee: $22,922.83.
REEF available for ER Coverage;
Relocation Assistance: Up to $15,000
Recruitment Incentive: $20,000

In order to be eligible for British Columbia licensure your postgraduate training must meet the requirements of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Post graduate training must be obtained from an accredited and approved training program in a jurisdiction sanctioned by the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
