Accountable to The Ottawa Hospital’s Board of Governors, and as Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee, the Chief of Staff ensures that the quality and safety of medical care given to all patients is at the highest level, and is in accordance with the by-laws and policies established by the Board. The position requires a commitment of three days per week from the successful candidate. S/he will work as part of a highly effective and collaborative dyad with TOH’s CEO, an approach which has resulted in proactive engagement of physician leaders across the Hospital. As a suitable candidate, you must be a physician qualified to practice in the Province of Ontario and able to gain active privileges to practice medicine at TOH. Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or membership within the College of Family Physicians of Canada is also required. You are a highly respected medical leader with experience in large and complex health care settings. You possess excellent clinical and administrative leadership skills combined with deep experience facilitating change in patient-centred care delivery. TOH will benefit from your exceptional strategic planning, creativity and innovative thinking skills, from your systematic and progressive program implementation experience, and from your knowledge of continuous improvement methodology and its cultural impacts on an organization. Highly attuned to risk, you are genuinely invested in the advancement of quality in all areas. Perhaps most importantly, you are an outstanding communicator and relationship builder who can credibly serve as the face of medical leadership for TOH, internally and externally, and you bring particular expertise in negotiation, conflict resolution, and consensus building that will allow you to exert influence and achieve impact at all levels. Proficiency in English and French is an asset. Preference will be shown to candidates with previous academic health experience.
