The University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services invite applications and nominations for the joint position of Head, Department of Psychiatry, Cumming School of Medicine and Clinical Department Head, Psychiatry, Calgary Zone, Alberta Health Services.  As the most senior physician leader in Psychiatry in the Calgary Zone and the academic department, this is a key leadership position within Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the Cumming School of Medicine (CSM).  

The Department of Psychiatry is a major department within the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. The Department fully contributes to the research, educational and service missions of the Cumming School of Medicine. It has a fully accredited residency training program and a record of accomplishment in research.  In partnership with the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, in 2012 the Department created the Mathison Centre for Mental Health Research & Education (http://mathison.ucalgary.ca). The Centre focuses on understanding the causes of mental illness and determining the most appropriate ways for prevention, early identification and early intervention. It is home to 36 mental health researchers and provides an enriched environment for mental health research and the training of students and fellows.  

Inspired by the university's Gaelic motto, which translates as 'I will lift up my eyes,' the University of Calgary launched an ambitious “Eyes High” vision to become a leading Canadian research-intensive University. Within this goal, Brain and Mental Health is a named strategic priority of the University, including a campus-wide focus on Child and Youth Mental Health. 

The ZCDH reports to the Calgary Zone Medical Director.  All other Calgary Zone medical leaders and physicians in Psychiatry report to this position.  The Academic Department Head reports to the Dean, Cumming School of Medicine.  

We are searching for an outstanding leader to be the joint ZCDH, Psychiatry, and the University’s Department Head of Psychiatry. Qualifications include an MD, eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta, and certification in Psychiatry.  The selected candidate must have a strong academic background with academic qualifications commensurate with a tenured appointment at the rank of Professor as well as demonstrated research and educational achievements, proven administrative ability (with a minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience) and clinical skill. 

Range of remuneration for the academic position is $103,020 to $170,000.  Additional remuneration will be provided directly by Alberta Health Services.
