Created through a merger of The Scarborough Hospital’s Birchmount and General sites and Rouge Valley Health System’s Centenary site in December 2016, SRH is committed to delivering the highest quality patient- and family-centred care, with a focus on enhancing access to services for the Scarborough community.

Patient services include a full-service Emergency department at each site, advanced maternal and neonatal care, and specialized paediatric care. In addition, SRH is home to a number of regional programs serving the central east Greater Toronto Area and beyond, including cardiac care, nephrology, vascular surgery, and vision care, and is recognized as a centre of excellence in orthopaedic surgery, cancer care, and mental health.



Job Description

We are looking for an exceptional candidate to join the SRH medical leadership and lead an outstanding team of clinicians within the Department of Anesthesia at SRH across the three sites to provide anesthestic care for over 48,000 inpatient and outpatient cases. 

In this leadership role, the individual will be responsible for the organization and management of the medical staff from across the three sites that include the Birchmount, General and Centenary sites and provide leadership as a skilled clinical leader to standardize and integrate the department across the Corporation.  In collaboration with Senior Leadership, Patient Care Directors and other Department Chiefs, you will help lead the ongoing growth and development of the Hospital and the Department as they relate to the delivery of surgical services, obstetrics, and pain management in SRH.   The individual will be a respected clinician, who demonstrates a commitment to quality healthcare delivery and patient safety as well as be an effective change agent with a history of personal integrity and the ability to inspire others.  He/she will foster a collaborative environment and will interact positively in partnerships and relationships with colleagues and all internal and external stakeholders.

Duties can include but are not limited to: human resource management including recruitments, reviewing of credentials and recommending privileges to be provided; overseeing the quality of care provided by clinicians, overseeing the implementation of best practices and standardization of practices across the three sites, managing matters related to physician performance/professionalism, ensuring appropriate coverage and scheduling of physicians, compliance to Hospital By-laws, rules and regulations, policies and procedures, overseeing the academic program within the Department.  Additional responsibilities include working collaboratively with the administrative leadership and other physician leaders to optimizing efficiencies, fiscal accountability and resource utilization including operating room utilization  as well as participating in the development and implementation of the Program and Hospital Strategic Plans.

Individuals who have significant clinical practice and administrative experience, in addition to a progressive leadership background with the ability to provide leadership in a community hospital setting are strongly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be a licensed physician, or eligible for licensure, in the province of Ontario; hold or be eligible for Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada fellowship in Anesthesia; and, will have (or be eligible for) an academic appointment within the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto.
