Research Associate Position at the Ocular Inflammation and Retinal Disease Laboratory

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of British Columbia seeks applications for a Research Associate in Ocular Inflammation and Retinal Disease.

 The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, performing experiments and drafting scientific manuscripts for publication in high ranked journals.  He/She will write ethics protocols and submit for REB approval. Independently reproduce, evaluate research and improve techniques currently used. Also, monitor and implement the concepts of quality management for laboratory. He/She will function autonomously with minimal supervision.

 The candidate will be required to interact with graduate students and research technician and coordinate the efforts of lab members in conjunction with the Principle Investigator. Expected start date is October 1, 2017.


 The successful candidate will hold a MD and PhD degree in a related field and minimum five (5) years of related research management and administration experience, or an equivalent combination of education; training and experience.

 Demonstrated experience on strategic planning and developing research projects and /or programs. Experienced conducting clinical trials. Computer experience required and proficiency in Microsoft office, GraphPad prism, flow Jo, Photoshop and NIS-Elements. Proficiency in immunological methods including flow cytometry, cell sorting, ELISA, immunoprecipitation, chromatin immune-precipitation (ChIP), and in vivo cytokine capture assays.

 The candidate should have demonstrated grant writing skills with a proven record of an ability to attract funding.

 The candidate should be highly collaborative, self-motivated, team-oriented, and have excellent communication skills.
