Job Description

University of Vermont Health Network Medical Group seeks full-time Emergency Medicine physician to serve as Medical Director over the Elizabethtown Community Hospital (ECH) and Moses Ludington Hospital emergency rooms with the goal of operating as one department.  The University of Vermont Health Network is a six-hospital network serving patients and their families in Vermont and northern New York.  The University of Vermont Health Network Medical Group consists of over 700 physicians and nearly 950 full-time staff.

  • The Medical Director role will initially be 50% administrative and 50% clinical.
  • Administrative responsibilities include merging the two departments, facilitating the move into the newly renovated ED in Ticonderoga, supervising and scheduling mid-level providers, directing quality management initiatives, and developing policies and procedures.
  • The Medical Director will have flexibility with respect to scheduling clinical shifts at both campuses.  Additional shifts available at our busier, higher acuity emergency departments at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) and University of Vermont Medical Center if desired.
  • Currently the Elizabethtown Community Hospital and Moses Ludington Ticonderoga emergency departments are staffed with physician assistants and nurse practitioners.
  • Elizabethtown Community Hospital, a CVPH affiliate since 1992 and part of the University of Vermont Health Network, is one of five Joint-Commission accredited Critical Access Hospitals in the state of New York.
    • 25 beds
    • 24-hour emergency services; ~7,000 visits per year
    • Telemedicine link to University of Vermont Medical Center
    • All digital radiology department and onsite laboratory
    • UVMHN Critical Care Transport services
  • Moses Ludington Hospital, located in Ticonderoga, New York, is undergoing a $9 million expansion and renovation of its emergency department.
    • 24-hour emergency services; ~7,000 visits per year
    • Full diagnostic resources including full service medical laboratory and 24-hour radiology department
    • Telemedicine link to University of Vermont Medical Center
    • UVMHN Critical Care Transport services
