Job Description

HRH provides a challenging and gratifying career environment.  Serving a vibrant and culturally diverse community of more than 850,000 people in northwest Greater Toronto Area, operating out of a 1.8 million square foot facility, it integrates lean and green design principles and the finest available medical and communications technology across all hospital systems, services and workflows.   HRH operates 656 acute inpatient beds, including 48 critical care beds, has 3,400 staff, approximately 600 physicians with privileges, and over 500 volunteers.    The hospital has formal affiliations with the University of Toronto and Queen’s University Medical Schools, and is the Toronto hospital of choice for Queen’s University Medical School.  HRH strives to continue to be the first in class as a high reliability hospital in all aspects of patient care, not only today but into the future.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief of Staff (COS) is the senior physician leader of HRH and is responsible for ensuring the highest quality of medical care to our patients.   Working collaboratively with a very engaged Board of Directors, the President & Chief Executive Officer, HRH Physicians, the Senior Leadership Team and the Foundation, the COS will contribute to the implementation of the new strategic plan for the hospital. The CoS will provide a particular focus on the strategic directions related to the academic mission, developing a culture of high reliability and digital innovation.  In addition to a medical degree, certification to practice in the Province of Ontario, he/she will possess in-depth knowledge of the Public Hospital’s Act, professional licensing/regulatory requirements, medical/legal issues, Hospital by-laws, Hospital operations, health system structure and functioning and governance systems and processes.
