Family Practitioner/General Internal Medicine Clinical Associates

The Department of Internal Medicine at University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) is seeking one full time and one part time family physician to work as Clinical Associates on a General Internal Medicine inpatient unit. The GIM unit consists of up to 20 acute internal medicine patients admitted under a supervising internist. The Clinical Associates will be involved in rounding on patients, admitting new medical patients during daytime hours, following up on tests, doing procedures and following through on a care plan created in consultation with the supervising internist. A strong interest in internal medicine, good communication skills and experience in hospital based acute care is essential for the position.
The expected hours for the fulltime position would be 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday, approximately 42 hours per week, with additional daytime hours every 4th weekend to assist with weekend rounds. Up to 8 weeks of vacation time is anticipated on an annual basis. There is no requirement to work nights or additional weekends beyond 1:4. The part time position would be scheduled to cover holiday time for other clinical associates on the GIM unit, as well as additional weekend sessions to assist with rounding. Remuneration is on a sessional basis, with 650 sessions per year for the full time position and 410 sessions per year for the part time position. A session is 3.5 hours long. Contracts are renewed annually.
UHNBC is the largest acute care facility in Northern Health, with 211 acute care beds. It is the referral centre for all communities across northern BC. High level medical services including all core specialties are available at this site. Medical sub-specialties include critical care, respirology, cardiology, gastroenterology and neurology. Diagnostic services include both MRI and CT scanners.
