Stroke Medicine Specialist/ Director of the Inpatient Stroke Unit

Department of Medicine, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, University of Toronto, 

The Division of Neurology, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto are seeking a full-time Stroke Medicine Specialist and Director of the Inpatient Stroke Unit. The successful applicant must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment with an academic position description of either Clinician Teacher or Clinician in Quality and Innovation at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. Advanced training and evidence of scholarship is a requirement for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Applicants at the Associate Professor level must have evidence of a strong publication record, as well as hold competitive external operating grants, successful teaching and supervision, and evidence of established academic engagement. Applicants at the level of Full Professor must have an international reputation and an academic history above the requirements for Associate Professor. It is expected that the position will be approximately 50-75% clinical and 25-50% teaching/quality improvement/research/administration. Expected start date is July 1, 2018, but flexible. 

We are seeking a physician who will foster excellence in inpatient care of stroke. Major responsibilities for this position will include running the daily activities of an excellent 14-bed acute stroke unit in a busy regional stroke centre. Time on inpatient service will be mutually negotiated but is not expected to be less than six (6) months per year. Other responsibilities will include facilitating a stroke medicine curriculum for trainees in medical school and in related specialty programs. Ongoing quality improvement efforts are also paramount. 

The successful candidate must hold an MD degree, be eligible for certification in, Neurology, Internal Medicine or a related discipline by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and have or be eligible for licensure in Ontario. The candidate is expected to have advanced training in stroke. Estimated compensation will be in the range of $250K – 450K (fee-for-service estimate) commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience.  The applicant can also participate in the department’s group medical, dental and life insurance benefit plans.
