Syncrude’s Operations/SSHE group is seeking a Manager, Operations Safety.  Located in Fort McMurray, Alberta, and reporting to the Vice President, Safety, Security, Health and Environment, this role is responsible for the provision of Subject Matter Expertise (SME) and organizational leadership to support organizational excellence in Process Safety that is aligned with the management systems (OIMS, GRS, CIMS, LPS) as well as in accordance with all federal, provincial, and local laws and regulations.

Key measure of performance under this role is the ongoing improvement in Process Safety, particularly in the reduction of number and severity of process safety incidents.  Associated improvements in the less tangible organizational process safety culture are additional parameters of performance associated with this role (e.g. diligence, skill, knowledge, and mindset).

As a successful candidate, you will have a Bachelor Degree or diploma in Engineering and is qualified to practice in the province of Alberta as a P.Eng (APEGA) or P.Tech (ASET). You have a minimum of five years of production, maintenance, technical, or safety experience in an operating environment (preference to refining or upgrading experience). With broad knowledge of process safety discipline, you have a minimum of five years of supervisory experience, have demonstrated leadership skills, is a critical thinker, and can influence without authority.
