Job Description

By joining our Team at KENT & ESSEX MUTUAL INSURANCE your career is headed in the right direction! 

We are currently recruiting for an adjuster to join our claims team as a Property Claims Adjuster which will also include responsibilities in Loss Prevention.  Reporting to the Claims Manager, this position will manage a case load of property claim files which involves providing prompt, fair, quality claims service to our policyholders ensuring their needs are met. The ideal candidate will have exceptional customer service skills, understanding how to communicate with a policyholder who is in the midst of a stressful time in their life and this will set you apart from the other candidates. 

You will require the ability and means to travel to the location of claims in order to conduct investigations, secure photos and to meet with policyholders, contractors or other necessary stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of the claim.

Your qualifications will consist of at least five (5) years’ experience in the insurance industry involving the adjusting and processing of claims; significant exposure related to property damage claims; exposure to bodily injury claims; and exposure to loss control inspection or risk management analysis.

Preference will be given to those applicants with relevant experience, but entry level applicants may be considered.

Competencies Required to Succeed:

  • Excellent written and communication skills

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, negotiation and organizational skills

  • A positive attitude and ability to work well within the team and learn from experienced Adjusters

  • Mathematical aptitude to calculate entitlements and ability to document files thoroughly.

 The ideal candidate will also possess:

  • Community College Diploma and desire to obtain P&C insurance designation would be an asset

  • Knowledge of building construction, the Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code

  • Knowledge of loss control techniques

  • Maintain a high degree of integrity and confidentiality

  • High attention to detail and accuracy

  • Ability to read, understand and explain to others the insurance policy wordings

  • Ability to work with others positively and learn from others; we are all one team!

  • Ability to learn new systems and technology; computer skills and working knowledge of MS Office Suite.
