Bring your strong strategic thinking, communication, and advanced analytical skills as well as Insurance knowledge to this Senior Analyst,  Homeowner Risk & Pricing position in Ottawa and participate in important developments to mortgage insurance and housing finance in Canada.
As a member of the Insurance Risk Management division, you will actively undertake and direct mortgage insurance risk, pricing and business analysis using quantitative and qualitative tools in order to make business and strategic recommendations that impact CMHC's Insurance, housing finance markets, and a great many Canadians. 
These positions require a quick learner with strong strategic thinking, communication (verbal and written) and analytical skills to gather pertinent information, plan and conduct analysis, develop and articulate business solutions and/or strategic recommendations to senior management or other audiences. They will also support the implementation and review as needed.

How You Will Be Contributing
  • Employ your strategic thinking, communication skills, and Insurance knowledge to support the development and implementation of plans for Insurance regular or ad-hoc pricing reviews, which involve reviewing models, assumptions, pricing policy and guidelines, and developing recommendations
  • Use quantitative skills (e.g. as related to risk, economic, and financial analysis),  available data tools (e.g. SAS, PowerPlay, etc.), and available models/ calculators to analyze data and conduct analysis in order to develop business solutions
  • Develop and leverage stakeholder networking, research, or other approaches to gather pertinent business and qualitative information to inform and complement quantitative analysis in order to optimize business solutions and/or strategic recommendations;
  • Articulate, present, and discuss analytical findings and recommendations through interpersonal communications or in written format, e.g. presentation, reports, submissions, etc. to senior management and other audiences; 
  • Lead and/or support other Insurance operation, policy, and risk management analysis and projects as required;
  • Proactively seek to identify best practices and trends,  and opportunities for CMHC to improve its insurance risk management and pricing in order to better deliver on CMHC’s mandates.
What We Are Looking For
  • A commitment to demonstrating CMHC values
  • Master’s degree, preferably in Commerce, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics or Finance or a related field and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Professional designations such as CFA, FRM or a Ph.D. degree in the above fields will be considered important assets.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in the insurance or finance industry with the Comprehension of the life cycle of an insured mortgage loan in Canada and key potential risks faced by mortgage insurers in insuring against mortgage loan default. Direct experience related to insurance risk management and pricing will be considered an asset
  • Significant experience working on or leading on complex  analytic projects to support financial or insurance product, operations and decision making with an ability to plan and guide the project and members toward the objectives
  • Ability to identify issues, gather relevant information, research, assess implications, and develop solutions / recommendations using quantitative and qualitative tools
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to summarize analytical findings as well as relevant business information, articulate recommendations and present results in a clear, succinct and convincing manner (written and verbal) to management and other audiences using MS PowerPoint or MS WordsDemonstrated ability to build and improve client and stakeholder relationships, trust, and team work and contribute to a working environment where diversity is valued, respected and integrated
  • Familiar with using  data and analytic tools, e.g. SAS EG, PowerPlay Cubes,  Excel spreadsheets, etc. or other relevant business analysis tools to conduct analysis
