Job Description

The School of Engineering, at the University of British Columbia's Okanagan campus, invites applications for a Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Advanced Materials and Polymer Engineering. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong record of research productivity commensurate with with experience in the application of new materials or polymer engineering in emerging technologies including biotechnology, additive manufacturing, human protection, wearables or clean/renewable energy.  Expertise in related areas including (but not limited to) lightweight materials, nanocomposites, biomedical materials, smart and multifunctional materials, materials for battery, energy storage and energy conversion and green building materials is highly desirable. Researchers conducting a fundamental research with direct industrial or field application are encouraged to apply. 


The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure-track), and is expected to start on January 1, 2018 or soon thereafter. We are particularly interested in applicants whose research and teaching expertise complement the current strengths in the School. The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in engineering and must either be registered, or be eligible to register, as a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia.  UBC Okanagan offer numerous opportunities for intra- and inter-Faculty research collaborations.


Tier 2 Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars with active research programs in their field for fewer than 10 years at the time of their nomination. Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 Chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process. (iii) a concise proposed research program (6 pages, NSERC CRC nomination format preferred)
