Job Description

Term:                     Full time (40 hours per week), Permanent

Salary:                    $80,000 to $90,000

Under Company direction, works as an engineer in the field of fire engineering. The successful applicant will coordinate and conduct building plan reviews, interpret the building code, prepare building design reports and coordinate with fire protection engineering teams on the development of alternative solutions. The candidate will be responsible for the review and implementation of fire protection strategies and will coordinate on all matters with the design team and authorities having jurisdiction.


General Duties

  • Provides building code consulting services relevant to fire protection/prevention.

  • Coordinates and conducts full building fire protection/prevention analyses and reviews.

  • Develops detailed building code reports and equivalencies, relevant to fire safety.

  • Completes performance-based design analyses.

  • Prepares or requests preparation of design notes, drawings, specifications and occasionally prototypes or models.

  • Performs field reviews and may give technical direction to external parties regarding construction or installation matters to ensure adherence to fire safety specifications.

  • Prepares written reports to document findings and recommendations.

  • Commits to client satisfaction by contributing to successful projects and by having a deep understanding of the client's business.

  • Devises ways of reaching objectives in the most economical manner and of meeting any unusual conditions affecting work progress.

  • Actively contributes to the success of an integrated team of professionals and administrative staff. Confers in a professional manner as required with technical, management, and administrative staff of the Company, and with contractors, consultants and suppliers.

  • Keeps well informed of the latest technological developments relating to field of practice. Keeps updated on changes to building codes.

  • Updates professional knowledge through attending seminars and conferences and reading journals and other material as required.

  • Works with team members to recommend changes in building designs to improve fire safety.

  • Conducts the normal administrative functions related to position. Follows operational procedures relating to time and expense entry, maintenance of engineering files, upkeep of engineering and office equipment, and other administrative tasks.


Key Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Fire Engineering is required, Master’s preferred.

  • 3 years of broad fire engineering experience including related administrative duties.

  • 3 years of experience coordinating and conducting building plan reviews, interpreting building codes and preparing building design reports.
