The Chief of Staff (COS) is a key member of the President’s Leadership team. Under the direction of the President and on his/her behalf the COS manages and responds to a wide range of matters/issues of importance often high profile and /or critical. He/she advises and supports the President on strategic pan-university initiatives and is a member of the President’s Advisory Committee on Government Relations, Advancement, Communications and Events (GRACE). In that capacity, he/she maintains effective relationships with the offices of the Vice-Presidents and members of the Senior Administration, working across all areas of the organization and playing a key role in ensuring that York University achieves its mission, vision and priorities. The COS also serves as a member of the President's President-Vice-President (PVP) committee and the University Executive Committee (UEC) and is responsible for helping direct attention to priority matters and ensuring effective leverage of the President and senior management team’s time and attention.
Operationally, this role is responsible for direction and oversight of the management of the administrative, financial, human resources, facilities and planning functions for the Office of the President. Also, responsible for oversight, resource utilization, and budget management throughout the Division (Communications & Public Affairs; the Centre for Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion; and University Secretariat and General Counsel). Plays an active role on the team to support the President and manage sensitive issues that may impact the University’s reputation.
The successful candidate will possess 10-15 years professional experience in a university setting or non-profit setting with sustained exposure to University decision making processes, strategic planning, building strategic relationships and project management. A Master’s degree is required.
